Grown with care,
gently, by nature.
Prakruthi means nature. A family farm since 2010, we now grow clean, fresh button mushrooms in small batches and bring them to your table the day they are picked.

Read our storyFrom thirty acres
and a learning year
How a family who left careers in manufacturing and IT built one of India's leading flower farms, and then turned to mushrooms.
A farm built by learning
In 2010, Ashoka Barekere and Padmashree bought thirty acres of land in Talekere with no farming background, only a belief that good food should be grown close to the people who eat it, and grown gently.
The first harvests were bananas, cucumbers, capsicum, papaya and chillies. Many lessons came the hard way. But the farm broke even in its very first year, and that was all the encouragement they needed.
What followed was more than a decade of steady growth: greenhouses, flowers on a national scale, a working village community, and today, fresh button mushrooms. That spirit is in our name. Prakruthi means nature.
“The first year of farming was truly a learning period, learning by making mistakes. It was worth it when I saw breakeven. That motivated me to try harder and keep farming.”
Fifteen years on the land
- 2010
Thirty acres and a first harvest
We buy thirty acres in Talekere and plant banana, cucumber, capsicum, papaya and chillies. The year teaches us more than any book could.
- 2012
Into commercial horticulture
Our first two acres of greenhouse, growing gerbera. We lease fifty more acres in Muddenahalli, grow tomatoes across forty-five acres for three years, add marigold and chrysanthemum, and expand our greenhouses to eight acres.
- 2014
Among India's leading gerbera growers
Gerbera grows from eight to twenty-four acres, and Prakruthi Farms becomes the second-largest independent gerbera grower in India.
- 2016
A diverse, working farm
Fifty acres under cultivation: gerbera, marigold, rose, hot peppers, jalapeños and drumstick. More than two hundred people from our villages now work with us.
- 2020
A new chapter: mushrooms
We bring our greenhouses, water and people to a new crop: clean, fresh button mushrooms, grown on composted farm straw.
- 2026
Prakruthi Farms online
We launch prakruthifarms.in so more homes, restaurants and stores can discover our mushrooms.
The people behind the farm
Ashoka Barekere
FounderAshoka spent more than two decades in industry before turning to the land: four years in manufacturing at BPL, working on production, quality and product certifications, then around eighteen years in IT, rising from programmer to vice president and leading teams across France, Germany, the US, Canada and Australia.
He brought that discipline to farming, growing Prakruthi Farms from its first harvest into one of India's leading gerbera producers.
Padmashree
Co-founderPadmashree began her career at BPL, spending three years in production and two in quality. That grounding shapes how the farm runs today, from careful growing practices to consistent quality.
A natural people's person, she looks after the heart of the farm: the more than two hundred people from nearby villages who have built Prakruthi Farms with us.

Light, wholesome, full of flavour
Button mushrooms are naturally very low in fat and calories, yet add depth and a satisfying, meaty bite to vegetarian cooking.
They offer plant protein and dietary fibre, along with B vitamins such as riboflavin and niacin, and minerals including potassium and selenium.
To store, keep them refrigerated and use within four to five days. To cook, rinse briefly just before use, pat dry and sauté on high heat until golden.
